Service Pupil Premium 2017

This message is for the attention of Regular Forces Service parents based in England. If your child attends a state school, Academy or Free school in England and has been registered with the school as a Service pupil, the school will be granted a Service Pupil Premium of £300.

The Service Pupil Premium (SPP) is provided by the Department for Education to enable schools to offer additional, mainly pastoral, support during challenging times, which could include anything from a Service parent being away, being injured on active service to bereavement. Funds are paid directly to schools; with Head Teachers and school Governors deciding how the funds are used.

Schools with Service children in Reception to Year 11 classes are eligible to receive SPP, but only if your child’s name appears on the school roll as being a Service child. The annual census takes place on 19 January 2017 and children must be registered with the school before this date. You are encouraged to contact the school and make them aware your child is from a Service family. This information is not shared with other organisations and is protected on the National Pupil database.

For more information on eligibility, please see the links below:

For any other queries regarding Service children contact the Directorate Children and Young People’s educational advisory arm, Children's Education Advisory Service (CEAS) via email: DCYP-CEAS-enquiries@mod.uk or telephone: 01980 618244.

As you will be aware, the scheme which was launched in 2014, allows serving military personnel to borrow up to half their salary up to a cap of £25,000, interest free over ten years so they can buy their first home, extend a current one or move up the property ladder.

Big White Wall

That moment when everything calms down to a standstill; when, even if it is just for moment, life seems to make sense and the smile that has appeared on your face had no second thought. Peace is a simple concept yet it can be the hardest to accomplish. September sees the United Nations’ International Day of Peace (Wednesday 21st) take place around the world. It is a time to reflect on what makes each of us peaceful, on how we can create a more peaceful society, and on what has been sacrificed to achieve peace in the past. It can serve as a reminder that we are all seeking a more peaceful life.

With Big White Wall’s trained counsellors (called Wall Guides) and peer support, there is always a peaceful place to go 24/7. All UK serving personnel, veterans, reservists and their families aged 16+ can access free and anonymous online

Whether it is wellbeing or mental health issues, stress or just going through a tough time, Big White Wall is here to provide safe, anonymous support at any time, day or night.

Big White Wall is supported by Help for Heroes, the Ministry of Defence and
NHS England to support the UK Armed Forces, veterans, and their families.

Interested in Volunteering with Hampshire Children's Services?

Are you interested in supporting vulnerable young people to reach their goals?

We are looking for male and female mentors throughout Hampshire to provide independent support and mentoring.

This will include face to face meetings, supporting them to attend activities and telephone support. A crucial aspect of the role is to have the ability to build a positive relationship to allow them to feel listened to and supported.

The role of mentors has become increasing important in sustaining the progress made by young people. We are seeking volunteers, who are able to:

  • ·         Build and maintain positive relationships with young people
  • ·         Have the ability to listen
  • ·         Remain calm and impartial
  • ·         Work in a non- judgemental way.

Young people may have a range of professionals working with them. It is recognised that having someone independent who is impartial to talk too and offer support can make a difference to their self esteem and engagement – whilst supporting the role of the social worker to their working needs.

Have you got a spare hour a week to support a young person in achieving more?

If you can help or you want to find out more, please email the Innovation Fund Team on innovation.volunteers@hants.gov.uk
