Mental Health First Aid Adult (half-day) 
A training opportunity for local authority and community partners

Date:-   Thursday 8 February 2018  10.00 - 1.00pm 
Venue:- Mitchell Room, E11 Court, Podium Level, HCC, Winchester

Content:-
·         Insight into the two day course and the benefits of becoming a Mental Health First Aider, including:
o   what is mental health
o   common mental health issues
o   stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health issues
o   how to relate to people's experiences and support people in distress
o   an introduction to looking after your own mental health
  
This course is fully funded by a grant from the Covenant Fund as the result of a successful partnership bid by several Borough and District Councils and Hampshire County Council.  
This half day course is part of a larger project funded by the Covenant Fund which involves delivering Mental Health First Aid, Armed Forces (2 day) courses across Hampshire for staff from local authorities and partner organisations.  
The half day course will provide an opportunity for strategic leads to gain an overview of the program and explore how it can be beneficial for front line staff and the armed forces communities they support.  

Two Day Course: Nr Andover - 14 and 21 February 2018 

This two-day course is aimed primarily at staff from local authorities and partner organisations including health, the community sector and our military partners. 
Courses are fully funded by a grant from the Covenant Fund as the result of a successful partnership bid by several Borough and District Councils and Hampshire County Council. It is offered at no cost to individuals or organisations. 
This project is being delivered as a way to strengthen the delivery of the Armed Forces Covenant by local authorities in Hampshire.

A two-day course has been organised for Wednesdays 14 and 21 February 2018 9.00-1700 at Defence Medical Welfare Service, The Old Stables, Redenham Park, Redenham, Nr Andover  SP11 9AQ.  Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Two Day Course: Winchester - 21 and 28 March 2018  

This two-day course is aimed primarily at staff from local authorities and partner organisations including health, the community sector and our military partners.
Courses are fully funded by a grant from the Covenant Fund as the result of a successful partnership bid by several Borough and District Councils and Hampshire County Council. It is offered at no cost to individuals or organisations. 
This project is being delivered as a way to strengthen the delivery of the Armed Forces Covenant by local authorities in Hampshire.

A two-day course has been organised for the 21 and 28 March 900-1700 at Hampshire County Council Winchester. 21 March - Mountbatten Room, QEII Court, HCC 28 March – Kings Room, Falcon House, Winchester. 


What will you learn?

The MHFA Armed Forces Community course is split into four manageable chunks.
These are:

  • ·         What is mental health, and why MHFA for the armed forces community?
  • ·         Suicide and depression
  • ·         Psychosis
  • ·         Anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder

 In each section you will learn how to:

  • ·         Spot the early signs of a mental health problem
  • ·         Guide someone towards the right support; Provide help on a first aid basis
  • ·         Help prevent someone from hurting themselves or others
  • ·         Help stop a mental illness from getting worse
  • ·         Help to reduce the stigma of mental health problems


How will you learn?

The course takes place over two full days. The sessions will be a mix of presentations, discussions and group work activities. The Instructors are from the Defence Medical Welfare Service.  Due to some of the sensitive subjects of this course, numbers are limited to 16 people.

italk provides free treatment to people suffering from common mental health problems including depression, anxiety and stress.


What is italk?

italk is a free service for patients with depression, anxiety or stress. We are an Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service, which is delivered in partnership between Solent Mind and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust.
italk is an NHS commissioned service for patients aged 16 and over who are registered with a GP in the following areas of Hampshire: Basingstoke, Bordon, Eastleigh, Fareham, Gosport, Havant, the New Forest, Petersfield, Romsey, Andover and Winchester. It is free to anyone who accesses it.
